Monitor technician certification & arrhythmia training
What does a monitor technician do?
Overview and job description
A monitor technician observes the heartbeats and electrocardiograms (EKG) of patients in intensive care units or ICUs. They typically work in hospitals and sit at computers outside of patients’ rooms to perform their job.
It can be confusing what a "monitor technician" is because hospitals will also use the job titles telemetry technician, cardiac monitor technician, 12-lead EKG tech and more. The fact that nurses and nurse assistants are adding this becoming certified adds even more titles to the mix.
While monitor technicians specialize in cardiac monitoring, effective patient care relies on a collaborative team. Nursing aides play a vital role in providing essential support, assisting with patient comfort, and communicating important observations to the medical team.
We provide the skills you need to work in any of these roles and break the learning into two separate courses, titled arrhythmia interpretation and 12-lead ECG. Have more questions? See FAQ.
